There is no denying that pregnancy brings a lot of changes to a woman's body, inside and out. More and more women these days are turning to chiropractic care during pregnancy to help alleviate some of the issues they may be experiencing, things like sciatica and even nausea.
Before the holidays I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Sara and Dr. Ruvayn of THRIVE Chiropractic in Troy. We spoke about the ways that chiropractic care can help women in pregnancy as well as how they can help newborns.
Some of the benefits of seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy include
- controlling symptoms of nausea
- relieving back, neck, or joint pain
- relieving pelvic pain
There is even a technique called The Webster Technique that helps relieve unnecessary stress to the expecting mothers uterus and supporting ligaments. A balanced pelvis can aide in optimal fetal positioning. This technique has been known to help breech babies turn in the final weeks of pregnancy.
Just like a chiropractor can help expecting mothers they can also help newborns. A chiropractor can help realign a newborns spine which can help with digestion, colic, spit up and even acid reflux. This is a gentle process unlike what you might think, this does not involve any cracking or popping. A chiropractor visit can also help if a baby is having issues with breastfeeding, adjusting ears, neck, and mouth can help with ear infections.
In my short visit I learned so much from both Dr. Sara and Dr. Ruvayn, I was very impressed.
Did you know that mother's sometimes carry more weight on one side of their body versus the other? YES! It's true. Dr. Sara had me step each foot on two different scales and I was able to see a five pound difference on my right side. The right side is the side I usually carry my daughter on, some women can have up to a twenty pound difference!
There are many benefits of seeing a chiropractor in pregnancy or for your newborn, I highly suggest THRIVE. Let them know I sent you!
